General
The Fight for Alternatives Global Assembly 2024 The movement against inequality continues to grow and expand throughout the world. It is recognized as one of the most critical problems of our time, that can be tackled with the organising and mobilising of peopleagainst the power of the world elites. Increasingly, our voices are being heard and they cannot be ignored anymore. This is why weare at a critical point where people are deciding about their futures in national elections, and multilateralagreements can take a decisive turn recognizing the need to end extreme and obscene inequality. The Fight for Alternatives Global Assembly is a space to meet with activists, organisations and leading voices in the fight against inequality from around the world, coming together to build a common pathway for social and climate justice, and send a strong message to governments, international institutions and global summits demanding real solutions based on peoples’ alternatives. The first edition of the Fight for Alternatives Global Assembly will be held in Manila, Philippines from September 4 to 7, 2024 at the University of Philippines Alumni Hall. From grassroots activists to award winning economists, our Assembly will be providing a counter narrative/ alternatives to the meetings of the G20, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the UN Summit of the Future that all take place after the Assembly and before the end of2024. The program will include discussion panels with leading economists, community based organisation leaders, frontline activists and journalists; we will hold people’s assemblies on climate solutions, progressive taxation, inequality fighting policies, LGBTQIrights, feminist movements, and movement building; we willcelebrate our diversity with cultural activities; we will grow our solidarity and learn from grassroots movements in the Philippines. Finally, we will close our global assembly with a powerful message to people fighting inequality to join the fight foralternatives and to governments, corporations, financial institutions and multilateral agencies to stop fueling inequality, violence and climate change, and support people’s alternatives for a just, inclusive and sustainable socio economic system. FIA’sGlobal Assembly will help further our objectives of: -Positioning the movement through effective and impactful communication as a global, grassroots voice in debates on inequality, the need for alternative/s, reform of global economic governance and debates on tax, debt, austerity, etc. -Beginning the next stages of our people’s alternatives campaigning and our 10 year objective to create a "blueprint for a new economic system" built by the people most affected -Build a prototype for much bigger Assembly in 2025 onwards - *the* gathering for the movement in 2025 (where we would scale up to 1,000+ people). -Agree onagenda points for 2025 planning -Develop a stronger commitment from FIA Council members -Agreement on four key strategic pillars forbuilding the movement (namely our governance structure, our membership policy, our mobilisation model and our fundraising strategy) -Create 2-3 headline grabbing iconic actions along the year These outcomes will be key to achieve our midterm goals by2027: Increase membership to 10,000 organisations Be able to mobilise 5 million people Raise 5 million USD per year Develop 15 - 20 strong national alliances and 3 regional alliances Engage 10 million online
