OXFAM GB in Mali
Oxfam is an international confederation organizations working together in more than 90 countries. Oxfam International was formed in1995 by a group of independent non-governmental organizations. Their aim was to work together for greater impact on the international stage to reduce poverty and injustice. The name Oxfam comes from the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief, founded in Britain in 1942. The group campaigned for food supplies to be sent through an allied naval blockade to starving women and children in enemy-occupied Greece during the Second World War. As well as becoming a world leader in the delivery of emergency relief, Oxfam International implements long-term development programs in vulnerable communities. We are also part of a global movement, campaigning with others, for instance, to end unfair trade rules, demand better health and education services for all, and to combat climate change. Oxfam GB is an actor in the implementation of this project. In Mali, Oxfam focuses on secure livelihoods, humanitarian assistance, and essential services – primarily the quality of education and water and sanitation

General
As the notorious gathering of some of the richest and most powerful person in Davos for the annual World Economic Forum takes place, Oxfam, partners and CSOs across regions and countries are responding to the Fight Inequality Alliance#s call for a Week of Action from the 19th to 26th January to mobilize across the world to highlight the crisis of inequality and to demonstrate that people are already organizing to demand a more equal society. Inequality has become one of the biggest economic, social, and political challenges of our time. The aim of this Week of Action is to show the global public that the answers to address this complex challenge do not only come from those elites; that instead the way to tackle inequality is through strengthening the power of ordinary people to organize for change. A kaleidoscope of marches, outdoor music events, people#s assemblies, travelling sound trucks, and stunts, as well as personal stories of why inequality matters and why people are fighting it will be captured and told during this week. In Mali Oxfam and partners want to take advantage of the Week of Action to join a growing movement and contribute to a debate around inequality in country. The aim of this week is to raise the level of understanding of citizens and CSOs about what inequality looks like in Mali and the region. The main aim is to open a space of constant dialogue on inequality with different stakeholders and national institutions. The activities that will be organized are a workshop with CSOs and the start of a research project to update data on inequality in Mali that will culminate on the launch of a report.
