Objectives
The LLF is a global fund for the long-term financing of globally outstanding natural landscapes and their peripheral areas, which was founded in 2020 by BMZ and KfW. Each funding leverages private funds. To date, the LLF has supported 14 natural landscapes. To date, large nature conservation NGOs such as WWF or FZS have been supported with basic annual funding for the operational costs of classic protected areas and their peripheral zones. In this context, the protection of the rights and interests of indigenous peoples and local communities (IP+LC) is already an integral part of the LLF environmental and social management system.Another major step towards the active integration of IP+LC is the targeted promotion of protected areas managed by IP+LC itself via LLF. The requested funding will establish a dedicated funding line in the LLF for this purpose and will provide long-term support for a protected area. The LLF has been deliberately designed as a flexible global financing instrument for biodiversity conservation, leveraging additional private funds with each new area financing. An IP+LC funding line will make an important contribution to achieving the global biodiversity targets, effectively linking land conservation to the integration of IP+LC. This was placed in a high-profile position and hada signalling effect on the CBD COP16 Oct/Nov 2024.
General
