General
The Jamaica Urban Solutions for the Environment (J-USE) project aims to increase climate change resilience in urban areas of Jamaica by implementing nature-based solutions (NBS) that meet the needs of all genders and social groups. It seeks to address the increased impact of climate change affecting urban areas, where over 56% of Jamaicans live. These impacts include flooding, more frequent, intense, and long-lasting droughts, and rising temperatures. The J-USE project seeks to implement 30 resilience projects in targeted urban areas using GAC funds. It anticipates scaling the number and geographic location of these projects using funds generated through the sustainable funding mechanism. Project activities include: (1) improving the capacity of key stakeholders, such as government, private sector and civil society organisations, to design and implement effective NBS solutions; and (2) creating a sustainable and innovative funding mechanism for urban-NBS that is managed by the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica.
